Contributions to the tribute of Joan Roach

In memoriam of our dear, loving and kind foster parents, Dr. James and Mrs. Joan Roach, both of whom we sadly lost this year. My name is Vathana Chhiv, married to Sam Chhiv who was kindly fostered by Dr. and Mrs. Roach when he was a young man, just arriving from Cambodia. With their encouragement and support, he was able to attend college and become an engineer. I met Joan, James and family in 1983 when my then boyfriend, Sam, introduced me to them for the first time and that was when I had my first Thanksgiving feast with lots of American food! They were the most kind, loving and patient couple I ever met. In 1988 when we got married, they assumed the role of the groom’s parents in the ceremony, having the patience to participate in the long Cambodian traditional wedding with us all. In 1990 and 1991, they were so happy and proud when we brought our newborns, Molly and Derek, to meet them. They continued to be proud of our children and us until the end. In 2021, they were there for us again at our daughter's Cambodian traditional wedding. Every Thanksgiving and Easter, Mom would cook so much food especially desserts! Dad made sure that there was a glass of wine at the dinner table for all adult children, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and maybe some others who stopped by their house. Their hospitality and love was unbounded, always serving everyone first and themselves last. We were so lucky and honored to have called them Mom and Dad and to be surrounded by the Roaches’ large family. May God continue to bless and bond us together for many more years to come and to love one another the way Mom and Dad loved us. RIP, our loving Mom and Dad. Our memories of you will be treasured in our hearts forever. With love, Vathana and Sam Chhiv.

My condolences to the family,it was such a pleasure getting to know Joan such a pleasant warm,loving kind and she always say thank you for whatever you did for her,for the short time I know I have some fond memories.Rest in peace Joan. Jesus replied,I assure you that today you will be with me in paradise. And I believe you’re Joan.

My condolences to the Roach family on the passing of your Mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Your mom is back at your father’s side where we know she always wanted to be . Their’s was a true love story . May she rest in peace .
