Obituary of Theresa DeFrancis
Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, and Aunt, Theresa Catherine Szor DeFrancis, 94, of Fairfield, who passed away peacefully with her loving daughter and goddaughter by her side.
Theresa was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, of 54 years and her daughter, Theresa; her parents, Joseph & Theresa Szor; her In Laws, Anthony & Sadie DeFrancis; and sister-in-law, Katherine Luciano; as well as her much beloved brother, Joseph Szor, and his wife, Grace, and their Granddaughter, Alyssa Collier. Theresa is survived by her daughter, Marie, of Fairfield; and son, Frank (Pam) of Meriden. Theresa also leaves behind her loving family, her beloved brothers, Gerald (Elizabeth) Szor, and Francis (Lynn) Szor; and sister-in-Law, Rosemary DeFrancis. Auntie Theresa loved and treasured all of her nieces and nephews, Cathie (Tim) Collier, Casey, Joseph (Pam) Szor, Nova Comisar, Lisa (Scott) Allen, Samantha, Sydney, Brian (Heather) Szor ,Rachael, and Jason (Amy) Szor, Kendall, Christian, Barbara Luciano, Dana Calcagni, Scott Tilton, Danielle Calcagni, Linda (John) Anastasia, and Tealeye Luciano.
Theresa was born on March 22, 1929 in the Hunktown section of Bridgeport, CT, she grew up on Ash Street and Hancock Avenue it was there that she would form an unbreakable bond with her cousin Mary. Theresa would tell stories about their adventures, and how Gramma Dobos would comb their hair and use chicken grease to style their hair, needless to say every fly in town would follow the girls to school. But they did not mind, to the end of their journey in this earthly life they went together. Theresa passed away on the day of Mary's funeral. Theresa's family would move to their Jackman Avenue home, where she would meet the love of her life, Frank, as he walked by the family home on his way to the firehouse, and as they say, the rest is history.
Theresa was very active in many activities, Women's Guild of the First United Church of Christ, Member of Fayerweather Yacht Club, HSR Woman's Golfer-9 holders, Fairfield Woman's Golf League, Connecticut Fire Historical Society, Nutmeg Women's Senior Bowlers League, Consistory Member for the First United Church of Christ, and dedicated Bingo worker for 10 years. Theresa retired from the Town of Fairfield after 25 years of dedicated service in the Accounting Department.
Theresa loved to bake and she would bake for every occasion. Theresa was well known for her Hungarian poppy seed and walnut rolls. During Festival time at the church, people would always ask for Tessie Szor's cakes, they were the first to go. Theresa would make up to 100 for each festival and spend hours with the ladies in the downstairs kitchen making the small cookies for the dinners.
Theresa loved to read, go to the casino, and watch old Westerns on television. Theresa also loved to get in the car and go for very long rides and listen to John Denver, whether it was a long country road or a trip to the beach she was happy. Mommy, while my heart breaks for you and I miss you, I know that you are no longer suffering in turmoil from the "long good bye" or in the land of the "forget me not", for every ride I take will be with you, my angel at my side.
