Obituary of Brian McGeady

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brian O'Donnell McGeady, age 69, beloved husband of 42 years to Diane Grosso McGeady, of Fairfield, passed away on July 20, 2023, peacefully with his family by his side.

Brian was born on March 25, 1954 to Bernard and Lee McGeady. He had five siblings, three sisters, and two brothers who he loved dearly. Brian was so fortunate that they lived in close proximity and that he could easily spend time with them throughout the years. Brian grew up across the street from Longshore where his love of golf started at an early age.

He attended Staples High School, while tirelessly working on the side at Manero's and the Bridge Grill. This allowed him to be able to purchase his prized red Cuda. Geady, as he was referred to by his friends, graduated Staples High School in 1972. Then, he attended Boston College. In 1976, he earned his undergraduate degree in accounting and soon after, accepted a position with Kahan Steiger and Company in Stamford, CT. Upon passing his CPA exam, he was offered a partnership and remained with them until he retired. He also earned his masters degree from the University of New Haven throughout the following years.

In 1981, Brian married Diane Grosso. In 1985, Brian was overjoyed to announce the birth of his first child, Sean and two years later he welcomed identical twin daughters, Kyle and Megan. Brian was a wonderful and caring Dad. He was so proud of all his children's accomplishments and he would go on and on about them whenever asked. He was the proudest though when each of his children graduated college.

Brian loved the game of golf and paddle ball. He never missed a Thursday playing with his friends. He enjoyed numerous vacations in Cape Cod with his entire family. Brian made several trips to Disney World with his family and enjoyed several cruises to the Caribbean. One of his favorite memories was his trip to Hawaii.

Brian was a proud alumni of Boston College and loved going to the football games with his family in the fall, always tailgating beforehand. He was an avid Yankee fan and passed his love of the team and game to his family. More than anything, Brian loved the holidays and spending time with his family. He loved decorating his home and making everything special. He cherished the time he got to spend with his precious granddaughter, Harper, who lovingly referred to him as Pop. She always brought a smile to his face whenever she entered the room.

In addition to his loving wife, Diane Grosso McGeady, Brian's memory will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sean, Kyle, and Megan McGeady; his granddaughter, Harper; and his faithful companion, Rudy; his siblings, Meg Sagendorf, and her husband, Bradley Sagendorf, his brother, Richard McGeady, and his wife, Mary, his sister, Elizabeth O'Brien and her husband, Chris O'Brien, his brother, Kieran McGeady, his sister, Lee Yin, and her husband, Dan Yin; his brother-in-law, David Grosso; and his mother-in-law, Eleanor Grosso. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Brian is pre-deceased by his parents, Bernard and Lee McGeady; his sister, Katherine McGeady; and his father-in-law, Edward Grosso.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow at Assumption Greens Farms Cemetery, 73 Greens Farms Road, Westport.
