Obituary of Robert Holzbar

Robert J. Holzbar, age 87 of Fairfield, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Born in Bridgeport, on March 10, 1936, son of the late Paul and Irene Bodnar Holzbar, Bob was a lifelong Fairfield Town resident. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School, "Class of 1954" and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars aboard the USS Tarawa CVS 40 and Kingsville Naval Air Station, Texas, and later PHUBAI in Vietnam. Bob had been a fireman for the Fairfield Fire Department and also worked as a driver for the Teamsters Local 191 until his retirement.

Bob was very proud of his service time in the Navy. He was  a charter member of the Fairfield Fire Dept. Union 1426, a life member of the Port Five National Association of Naval Veterans, the Navy League of Bridgeport, and has his photo enshrined in the Navy Memorial in Washington, DC.

Survivors include his daughter, Laurie Hurd, and her husband, Daniel; her mother, Janet Holzbar, all of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Jill Moyher, and her husband, Thomas, of Shelton, Erin Hurd, of Bridgeport; and a great-grandson, William Moyher. He was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey and Christopher.

Funeral services will be held privately in the care of the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home.
