Obituary of Florence Dimitrie Gachi

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Florence Dimitrie Gachi, age 90, beloved wife of the late Thomas Dimitri Gachi, formerly of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 22, 1932 to the late Dimitrie Lupu and Costanda Rigea, Florence moved to Bridgeport, where she married her late husband, Thomas Gachi.

Her earliest memory of employment was being a Bank Teller in Woonsocket and her last role and place of employment was with the University of Bridgeport.  Her love of meeting people united these roles and was central in her life.  She loved animals and took care of many stray animals that found their way to her house.  She had a pure love of God and the church and was a longtime member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, and later Easton.  During this time she served as an angelic voice in the choir and with the Ladies Auxiliary.   Florence loved spending time with her friends, but loved her family most of all and was a loving protector of it throughout her life.  She was loved by all who came into contact with her and was often told, "I feel like I've known you for years".

Mrs. Gachi is survived by her son, Nicholas Gachi and his wife Stacey of East Haven, a daughter, Mary Ellen Cimaglia and her husband Steven of Baltimore, Maryland, and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved sister Victoria Chachi.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 19th from 5 to 8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center, and on Tuesday from 9 AM until 10 AM (in church). Her Funeral service will be celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, with her interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Church 5458 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604. For travel directions or to sign her guest registry, please visit www.LeskoPolkeFuneralHome.com
