Obituary of Margaret Rooney

Margaret (Peggy) Rooney (nee Doyle)- After 59 years of marriage to her beloved Seamus, Margaret (Peggy) Rooney died peacefully in her sleep in the care of her family on Saturday, September 17, 2022.

Peggy was born in Esker, Swinford, Co. Mayo and raised in Ballyowen, Kilucan, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. She immigrated to New York on St. Patrick’s Day, 1957. 

Peggy was a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Grace & John Plackis, Jimmy Rooney, Eileen & Paul Nolan, Michael & Stephanie Rooney, Karen & Frank Proto, Joan & Rich Griffin, Annie & Steve Crino and Terence & Joanne Rooney. Loving sister to Marie Farley and Thomas Doyle. Sadly, Peggy was predeceased by her brother, Charles Doyle and her parents, Michael and Bridget Doyle. Devoted grandmother to 18 wonderful grandchildren, Nicholas, Shannon, Sean, Ryan, Paul, Emma, Caroline, Jack, Doyle, Kyra, Seamus, Emily, Aidan, Emma, Maggie, Kathleen, Tess and Ailish and a proud great grandmother to Liam Maguire.

After living in Valley Stream, NY for over 31 years, Seamus and Peggy spent their golden years in East Durham, NY for 10 years. They enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. More recently they settled in Fairfield, CT in 2010 to be close to family. 

She will always be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. She had a great sense of humor and a deep faith.

Her wake will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 3-7pm in the t Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT 06824, 203 256-8988. Peggy’s funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 1030 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.Her interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
