Obituary of Paul J. Convertito
The Lord “outstretched His hand” on Thursday, January 13, 2022 and carried Paul Joseph Convertito to heaven.
Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Marie Convertito; Laura Jean Benanti, a very dear companion that lived with the family; his children Mark Convertito, Paul Convertito, Lisa and Chuck Sienkiewicz, John Convertito and Cindy Bartolone, Carolyn and John Festa and Peter Convertito and Liz Khachadoorian. He was endearingly called, “Grandad” by his 10 grandchildren; Sarah, Scott, J.P., Kara, Gregory, Michael, Catherine, Nicholas, Christina, and Carrie. Paul is also survived by his sister, Francis Larkin: and predeceased by his brother, Robert Convertito.
Born March 19, 1934, Paul came into late winter like a lion. Certainly a foreshadow of his strong presence in the lives of all who loved him. Paul liked things “his way.” The son of Italian immigrants, Paul and Francis Convertito, he was the first in his family to attend college (Fairfield University) and was president of his CYO group. His keen intellect and love of physics and philosophy lead to a long and successful 30-year career at Perkin-Elmer and Hughes Danbury Optical. In his early 60s he retired as a director who made his mark on the Hubble Space Telescope, Solar Optical Telescope, and Hexagon.
His love of family and commitment to the Patriarch role helped forge “La Familia”! Together they enjoyed decades of fishing, boating, vacations and holiday celebrations rich with traditions that span three generations. In his later years, time with his tribe of 26+ brought him a heartful of joy.
Paul lived by the lyrics of one of his favorite artists, Frank Sinatra, “My Way,” and passed onto heaven doing just that.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 1030 AM in Saint Thomas Church, Fairfield, with his interment to follow in Long Hill Cemetery, Trumbull.
