Carmela DeVito, age 76, of Fairfield, passed away on August 30, 2018. Born in Sant’ Angelo Dei Lombardi, Italy, Carmela came to the United States in 1960, and settled in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Antonio DeVito. Together they raised two daughters, Sina Binkowitz and Millie Antoniette Pollack, both of Fairfield. She loved her sons-in-law, Matt and Scott, as her own. Her grandchildren, Alexa and Christopher Binkowitz and Mia and Anthony Pollack, were the light of her life and she loved being a pivotal part of their daily lives.
She was the daughter of the late Rocco Rafaniello and Concetta Giammarino.
Throughout her life, she was well-known for her selflessness, kindness, and loving nature. She was incredibly dedicated to her family, and was adored by her four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was an excellent seamstress and master gardener, and took great pride in her home gardens in Greenville, NY, Englewood, FL, and in Fairfield, CT. She could cook a 5 course meal from scratch at a moments notice, with her meatballs and gravy becoming famous favorites among her family and friends. She never met a stranger, and everyone that became a friend of Carmela’s was invited to dinner.
She is predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Teresa (Pasquale) DiStasio, John (Rose) Rafaniello; Domenica (Guglielmo) Cetta, Maria Macchia, and Michael Rafaniello, Sister-in-law Giuseppina (Michele) Gallo.
