Obituary of Edward R. Fitzgerald
Edward Raymond Fitzgerald, age 77, beloved husband of Patricia Chanady Fitzgerald of Fairfield and Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19th after a 7 week battle with aggressive melanoma cancer.
In addition to Pat, his devoted wife of 56 years, Ed will be remembered by his loving children and their spouses, Cindy and Steve Schluter of Summit NJ, Tim and Erin Fitzgerald of Lugano Switzerland and Ted and Gwynne Fitzgerald of Stratton VT and his grandchildren, who he adored and was so proud of, Skyler, Jolan and Hunter Schluter, TJ, Madelyn and Adele Fitzgerald. His sister, Patricia Carusone of Madison CT, Brothers, Stephen of Clifton Hts. PA, Bill of Shelton CT and Michael of Media PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ed was born in Philadelphia, the oldest of five children of the late Edward and Rosemary Fitzgerald. He spent most of his life in Fairfield graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School and Fairfield University.
Ed began his career working with The Hartford Insurance Group. He eventually moved to The Independent Insurance Business, and his career culminated with owning LJF Insurance Services in Fairfield. He was an active member of The Independent Insurance Agents of America until his retirement where he served as a Past President, State National Director and Executive Committee Member of IIAA in CT. Ed was Past President of The Alumni Association of Fairfield University, a Board Member of Central Coast YMCA as well as many other civic and charitable organizations throughout his life.
Ed loved his family and friends, was a devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister, had deep values, was generous and, of course, an avid Phillies, Eagles and Stags Fan.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23rd at 1 p.m. in Saint Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield with the Reverend Charles Allen S.J. officiating. Prior calling hours have been omitted.
