Obituary of Robert Richard Allard
Robert R. Allard, age 91, of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Helen Tarasovic Allard, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Robert was born on January 23, 1927 in Southport Center to the late Emile and Eva Blanchard Allard and attended Roger Ludlowe High School and graduated from Fairfield Prep. A talented baseball player, Robert played second base throughout high school. He smoked cigars from the age of 14 with his father's approval and later in life, enjoyed it with a glass of Chivas Regal Scotch. At the age of 17, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country in the North Atlantic and worked all the way up to become a Coxswain.
After the Navy, Robert attended Fairfield University and graduated in 1951. His first car was a blue Ford Model A with a rumble seat. On April 25 1953, Robert married his devoted wife, Helen, and honeymooned in Bermuda. They were happily married for 60 years until Helen's passing on July 21, 2013. Robert was a purchasing manager in Danbury, New York City, and Stamford. He loved commuting on the train. During his professional life Robert and his family had resided in Westport, Danbury, Fairfield, and Black Rock; all of which he took great pleasure in gardening and repairing things around the house.
He was an avid reader and was a member of St. Pius X Church and St. Ann Parish, and a member of the VFW. Robert has a huge fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team and New York Yankees. He was able to teach his knowledge of baseball by coaching Little League. Robert owned dogs his entire life and was never without one.
Robert's memory will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Thomas Allard, and his wife, Leiza, of Fairfield and Philip Allard, and his wife, Cat, of Litchfield; a daughter, Jennifer Barsky, and her husband, Sean, of Ansonia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Niles, of Easton and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lesko & Polke Funreal Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
