Obituary of Joseph G. Samuelman
Joe Samuelman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on January 13, 2018 in Rutland, Vermont. Joe was born in Norwalk, CT on July 6, 1940, the son of Alfred and Mary (Astram) Samuelman. In 1962, Joe married Sandra Wargo and together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. If you took the time to see through Joe's rough exterior you would find a soft side. There was no pretense or façade; what you saw was who he was. He was strong and independent. In death as in life, he did things his own way. He was a proud member of the 1958 class of Roger Ludlowe High School and attended the University of Bridgeport. His career led him from one end of the food industry to the other. He became a store manager with the Food Fair grocery chain at an early age. In 1967, Joe established Fairfield Sanitation. After the sale of his business in 1995, he and Sandy moved to Proctorsville, VT. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and was an avid NASCAR fan. But most of all he loved spending time with his family. Joe is survived by his wife Sandy, his son Joseph Jr. and his wife Judith (Pulley) of North Andover, MA, and his daughter Robin Kalfaian and her husband Jim of Guilford, CT. His greatest joys were his 6 grandchildren: Emily, Maggie, Audrey, and Joseph Samuelman III of North Andover, MA, and Katie and Annie Kalfaian of Guilford, CT. They will miss him dearly. They said it was always an adventure when they were with Grandpa. Joe leaves behind his brother Alfred of Broad Brook, CT, sisters Jean Samuelman and Maryann Evanko of Stratford, CT, Ellen Hall of Naugatuck, CT, as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 11 am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield, CT. Family and friends may call from 10 am until the time of the service. The family requests that donations in Joe's memory be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
