Obituary of Thomas Carter
Thomas Carter, age 83, of Norwalk, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Boland Carter, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017. Born in Manhattan, Tom was the son to the late Aloysius and Nora O'Donoghue Carter. He lived in the Bronx and Larchmont, NY before moving to Norwalk to be closer to his family 19 years ago. A loving father and doting grandfather, Tom's memory will be cherished by his daughter, Kathleen Diomede, and her husband, Lawrence of Norwalk; his granddaughters, Kaela, Lillie, and Holly Diomede; a sisters-in-law, Mary Jane de Bourbon, and her husband, Ferdinand, of New Milford, and Ann Carter, of Florida; brothers-in-law, Brian Boland, and his wife, Marie, of Maryland, and James Robinson, of Maine; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his devoted wife of 56 years, Tom was predeceased by a brother, Alan Carter; brothers-in-law, Joseph, Patrick, and Thomas Boland; and sisters-in-law, Frances Robinson, Bridget Traynor, Patricia, and Breda. Tom was a railroad maintainer for Penn Central Railroad Co., a position that was retired when he retired. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and doing the New York Times Crossword Puzzles. An avid history and geography buff, Tom took great pleasure in reading about those topics. Tom had a quick, dry with sense of humor. He was a peaceful, engaging man that had a calming presence. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, with a prayer service taking place at 4:30 p.m. All other services will be held privately.
