Obituary of Elizabeth Szoszi Jando

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Cseh Jandó, age 85, of Stratford, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 4, 2020. Elizabeth was born in the small village of Jánosháza, Vas County Hungary. She was the loving daughter of Erzsébet Bolla Hogyor Cseh and Flórián Cseh. Elizabeth came from a very large family, one of six girls and six boys. She is survived by her youngest sister, Marika, and three brothers, Flóri, Imre, and Géza. She is predeceased by her sisters, Ágnes, Irma, Julianna, and Jolan; and brothers, Lajos, László, and Sándor. While working for the gas company in Budapest, Hungary, she met her husband of 62 years, Szilveszter László Jandó, a sewing machine mechanic from Pécs Hungary. They married in 1956 and seven months later were caught up in the bloody street fighting of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, an uprising against communist Soviet occupation of their homeland. They were one of few survivors of their destroyed apartment building in Pest as the Russians retook the city. They were fortunate to flee to the West among the many refugees from Hungary. From there they spent two years in an Italian refugee camp hosted by the Italian Red Cross from where they were able to eventually apply and immigrate to the United States becoming proud citizens. Elizabeth worked for the old Bead Chain factory, Frigitronics, and eventually retired from Sikorsky Aircraft. She spent tireless hours working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved to embroider those beautiful European folk-art floral patterns. She loved to travel and saw many sites here in the US and in Europe. She loved to cook her native dishes and spend hours in the kitchen baking all kinds of pastries for the Holidays; we will surely miss those delicacies. Back in the day she and her husband would tear up the dance floor dancing to the gypsy music of Rosika and Laszlo at the numerous local Hungarian community festivals. Elizabeth is a communicant of St Emery's Parish in Fairfield. When her husband became gravely ill, she was his nurse and was by his bedside day and night taking care of him until he too passed in 2018. Elizabeth and Szilveszter are survived by their loving son, Szilveszter Cseh Jando, and daughter-in-law, Cindy (Stachowiak). She has two beautiful granddaughters, Christina and Kaitlin, all of Naugatuck CT. She is as well survived by her best friend, Elsa. Her granddaughters will never forget the numerous Easter Egg hunts in her backyard or that chicken soup at the holiday dinner table. Her stories and parental advice will be missed but never forgotten, for her love and vibrance will live on in our hearts forever. Elizabeth left for her journey to meet God in Heaven surrounded by her family under the care of Vitas Hospice. The Jando Family would like to thank all her caregivers at Bridgeport Hospital and the Jewish Home Rehab. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Friends may greet the family on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to a charity of one's choice in memory of Elizabeth.
