John was simply a great guy. We moved to Quintard Ave. in 1984, and a visit with John and Lucy was always a high point of association meetings. His warmth and humor were a constant. Here are just a few memories . . .
He made us feel especially welcome when my husband, Steven, a builder, replaced the association dock. He was thrilled to have the association's water access improved. I will always remember him walking down the street, shirtless, to spend time on of of his boats.
When they were preparing to move, he told me he and Lucy had trunks of "stuff" in the attic, and that he was determined to clear it out. "It isn't fair to the children," he said. I have quoted him many times!
The last time I saw John, he was living in Norwalk. I asked him how to get in touch, and he gave me his business card. It read, "John Jinishian, At Large" AND SO HE WAS!! I treasure that card and the wonderful person he was.
Sending a big Grunow hug to all of you.
Best, Linda

John, Thank you for all those games of Backgammon and for the stories. Thank you for the road trips. Most importantly, thank you for your patient perspective and for being a role model and friend.

Such wonderful memories from childhood and after. I will hold dear his wonderful laughter, the sparkle in his eyes and his warmth when he greeted you. Our families crossed paths many times over the years through sailing, Old Greenwich and childhood friendships. The memory that comes to mind this moment is walking into the house on Vista Ave., dark wood and enchanting, he would be sitting by a window to the left ready to engage into a conversation, checking in how you were doing. One of the coolest Dads I knew!
