From the acknowledgments page in my PhD dissertation, Computer Science at NYU:
"Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I'd like to thank my uncle Make Baldyga. Your curiosity and excitement inspired me to love science and the quest for knowledge at a very young age. If this dissertation represents the fruits of a life-long journey, then, surely, the genesis of this journey must have been the bizarre physics thought experiments, water rockets, bird watching trips and other curiosities with the 9 year old me"
You made a difference. I wish my kid got to meet you.

I knew Michael years ago. We were in a relationship 25 years ago. We shared amazing experiences through food, music and travel. It was always an adventure and a learning experience. He was brilliant and unique with beautiful blue eyes and a great laugh! I learned so much from him and his curious nature was contagious. I wish I knew of his passing earlier I would have loved to pay my respects. My thoughts, love and prayers are with your family always. I will miss him.

I’m ever grateful for the privilege of being Mike’s college roommate. Hiking Mt. Nittany and playing flute at sunset at the top with him will stay with me forever.

Michael truly was "the professor". For years I played Jeopardy at his desk at MBI with our colleague, Mary Demko. The race was always for second place because Michael was so far ahead of us the the end of January we could not catch up! I shared Michael's love of science, especially space, the stars and constellations. I will remember Michael with every eclipse and supermoon in the coming months. He will always have a special place in my heart.
My deepest sympathy to his lovely family, some of whom I have had the pleasure to meet.
Barb Lessard, his science friend.

So many memories of Mike...in the woods and on the water, airshows, concerts, jazz festivals, bonfires, lamb roasts, playing music together and just being with him. We were blessed to have many years with Mike and have always considered him part of the family. To Jackie and I, he was our brother. To our son Hunter, he was an awesome uncle who he was able to share his good nature and fun loving spirit. Mike was a life catalyst, that rare person who could bring joy and interest on many subjects, not the least of which were science and music. But as you all know, that's just the tip of the iceberg. he was a great friend, who humorously referred to himself as a "professional guest." But he was no guest, he was family to us and always will be. We won't say rest in peace, surely because Mike will no doubt be the next guide to the universe!
All our best love and wishes to the Baldyga family and our mutual friends over the years.
Greg, Jackie and Hunter

Want to pass along my condolences to the Family and Friends of Mike. I first started working with Mike in 1980 while a Customer Service Representative at the Kingsport Press Sherwood Plant. Mike became much more than a business associate and was considered a friend and a brother by all of us here in East Tennessee. In latter years we shared the nickname of Possum with Mike and he forever will be known as Possum to us.
He was well known for his knowledge, but even more for his nature and spirit and we always felt he would fit in very nicely with us Southern boys if he ever decided to take the leap and become one of us here in the mountains. When he told us he drove through Corbin, Kentucky on one of his business trips to see the original KFC we knew without a doubt he was one of us.
We miss him already and he will always be in our hearts and minds and I will never hear of an eclipse anywhere on the planet that I will not smile about my old friend and his fascination with the sky.

To the family of Mike Baldyga,
Please accept our deepest sympathies for the loss of our good friend Mike Baldyga. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I met Mike about 20 years ago working for Lotus Creations and being one of his venders for all that time, until he took his leave of his job. We had many conversations and many moments of haggling on price on the plates we make. I believe he took great joy talking me down on the cost. His kindness was very endearing to us always asking how the workers were doing.
While Mike Baldyga and I had an excellent business relationship, he very quickly became a good and caring friend as well as a great client. It was hard not to be friends with him his caring for others and knowledge of his job was very infectious. He was a good man and a good-hearted person may he rest in peace.
Lotus Creations Inc. thoughts are with you during this time of bereavement.
Sincerely,
All of the employees and people of
Lotus Creations, Inc.

Mike, Thank you for being a great friend ~ wow 38 years. You made lunch and after work gatherings LOADS of fun with your zany sense of humor. Mike, who cherished the magic of the universe. You were our teacher and inspired us to look up at the sky. I will smile when I see an image of Jesus, all those years we said you looked like him! When I see a crazy bird or a shooting star, I’ll laugh with you wherever you are. Until I see you again Mr. Wizard
I am praying the angels bring comfort to all the Baldyga’s.
Love you eeyga, Barbie Brueski

“You came like a comet
Blazing your trail too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon”
Michael was like a brother to me and will always be in my heart.
Nature signs and a message from a friend have said that he is with Jesus in Heaven.

To the Baldyga family-
I am very sorry for your loss. Mike had a kind spirit. Many years ago Larry and I visited Mike at Penn State. As I was going through a difficult time- Mike encouraged me to go to college. And he was soft spoken about it. I won’t ever forget that time spent with him.
With deepest sympathy

My best friend for over 50 years, Mike and I have been through so much together. To my boys, he was Uncle Mike, having a profound influence on their lives. It was because of Mike, they chose to make the world of science their profession.
My heart goes out to Mike's family and friends. To them I wish my sincerest condolences.

Though I hadn’t seen Mike for a number of years I always considered him not only as a former colleague but more importantly as a friend. All those happy hours on Fridays I’ll always remember them as such good times. This is so hard to process, I can’t believe he’s gone. He will forever have a place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I had the honor of knowing and working with Mike for over 30 years and considered him not only a business associate but a friend as well. He was a humble, gracious, honest man and will be missed. We started in this crazy bookbinding business about the same time and over the years, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for his knowledge and common sense approach. His family and friends are in my prayers. He was definitely one of the good guys!
