Obituary of Kathleen F. Filo
Kathleen F. Tiernan Filo, age 77, a lifelong resident of the Black Rock Section of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Terry Filo, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Kathy's memory will be embraced by her children, Robert Filo, of Bridgeport, Colleen Filo, of Bridgeport, Mary Filo, of Milford, Kevin Filo and his wife Leslie, of Port Orange, FL; her cherished grandchildren, T.J., Michaela, Mackenzie, Jackie, and Jessa; her sister, Nancy Peffley and her husband Ken, of Bluffton, SC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband Terry, Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Charlotte Olha Tiernan.
Kathy was a graduate of Saint Ann Grammar School, Notre Dame High School, Class of 1960, and Saint Vincent's School of Nursing, Class of 1963. A Registered Nurse, she worked for Saint Vincent Medical Center and Urology Associates prior to Bridgeport VNS. She retired after a 40 year career of caring for those in need.
Kathy loved friend and family gatherings, sharing in laughter, and the occasional heated political discussion. For years, the Filos would host their famous Black Rock Day party. Her home was always open to guests. She was especially fond of her children's friends, and with the help of her close friends, they collectively acted as the second "mom" for many of the Black Rock neighborhood children. Kathy endeared herself to many, and will be lovingly remembered.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 2-6 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church, Black Rock. Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery.
