George "Bud" Evans, age 94, of Cromwell beloved husband of the late Frances Mary Clew Evans, passed into eternal life on May 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Bud was born to parents, George Isaac and Ann Estelle Burke Evans on December 27, 1924 in Middletown, CT. He attended Middletown schools before serving in the Army during World War II with the 110th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He received several military honors and medals for fighting on D-Day at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, The Rhine River Crossing, and the Liberation of Paris. After World War II, Bud worked in management for the Southern New England Phone Company for over 40 years. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Cromwell. In addition to his wife, Mimi, he was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Jones and Evelyn Conway. He is survived by his four loving daughters, Suzanne Evans, of Scituate, MA, Marcia Evans, and her husband, Michael Martin, of Redding, Elizabeth Sapia, and her husband, Charles, of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Robin Thayer, and her husband Charles, of Cranberry Township, PA; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bud was known for his quick wit and humorous nature, which endeared people from many walks of life. He was as feisty as he was gentle. His loyalty to his family was fierce. Bud loved all sports but was particularly fond of baseball. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees and the State Little League Teams. He was an ardent patron of the US Olympic Team and the Wounded Warrior Project. In his retirement, he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, history, and cooking. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home and 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Redding. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown.
