Obituary of Daniel Wells Gale

Daniel Wells Gale, son of Marjorie Andrews and James Tucker Gale, passed peacefully in his sleep with family at his side. He was born in New York City and moved to Stamford, CT as a toddler where he spent most of his life. He is survived by his siblings Jeff Gale, Eric Gale, and Katy Gale as well as Anne O'Connell (Terry); his niece, Maddy Henck (Rob); and 4 nephews: Stephan Gale, Jimmy O'Connell, Billy O'Connell, and Danny O'Connell Dan grew up in Stamford and played little league at Federal where he famously pitched a perfect game and, infamously, lost a no-hitter. He attended Stamford Public Schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1968. At SHS he played football and was a member of the Bishops. He went on to attend Cornell University where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972. While there he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and served as president. He worked for a brief time at Texaco until he had an accident that changed the trajectory of his life. After recovery, he worked at U.S. Surgical until the company relocated. He then began working maintenance in the Landmark Square complex in downtown Stamford for F.D. Rich. Dan prided himself in doing his job well, no matter how small it was. He was there for 25 years and had a few other maintenance jobs subsequently including one at the JCC. Anyone who knew Dan knew his positive spirit and propensity for hyperbole, both of which kept him laughing along with everyone in his sphere. He was a kind soul with a big heart. He loved swimming in the Long Island Sound both in Stamford and at the family beach house on the North Fork of Long Island where many happy summers and vacations were spent with extended family. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Brain Trauma Foundation. If you really would like to honor Dan's life, spend an evening sharing cookies and laughter with those you love. Maybe listen to the Rolling Stones or watch an episode of the original Star Trek. And try not to take yourself too seriously.
