Obituary of Bern Conrad

Please share a memory of Bern to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bern Conrad, 83, of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home on November 20.

Bern was born in June, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. After serving in the U.S. Army, he went on to study fashion at the acclaimed Fashion Institute of Technology.

After attending FIT, he started a career in the fashion industry leading to the creation of his own women's clothing brand, “Bern Conrad”.

Bern never truly retired spending his later years designing and building high end homes. His thirst and passion for creativity never faded. He was always full of new ideas and plans, forever thinking about what’s next...

In his younger years, Bern loved to ski and play tennis, creating his own court on his property. A great lover of music and having an amazing repertoire, he would break out in song if he heard someone accidentally say part of a lyric. Boating also figured prominently when he had a summer house in East Hampton, cruising around the harbor with Ilonka in tow on skis.

Always upbeat and friendly, there were few people in and around the Fairfield area that didn’t know Bern. He loved to bring people together.

Bern was predeceased by his parents, Harold & Olinda Conrad, sister, Carol Wood, and brothers in law, Arthur Puccini and Bill Wood.

He is survived by his wife, Ilonka Conrad, son, Cole Conrad, daughter-in-law Allison Conrad, granddaughter, Delaney Rose Conrad, sister, Joan Puccini, brother, Donald Conrad, all his nieces and nephews, and his loving grand-dog Brady.

Services will be held at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, in Fairfield on Wednesday, December 1st at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.(https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR/GiftFunds/GiftFunds?px=7306050&pg=personal&fr_id=39300) For travel directions or to sign his online guest register, please visit www.LeskoPolkeFuneralHome.com
