Obituary of Ormarell J. Gilbert

Ormarell J. Gilbert, age 97, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Edward Gilbert, and mother to the late Judy Crotty and the late Carol Jan Trifiatis, entered into eternal life on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Born in St. Paul, MN to the late Guy and Ruby Bender, Ormarell had lived in Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. She had worked as a secretary for the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, prior to dedicating her life to her family and raising her children. 

Throughout her life, Ormarell enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes. She sewed and did needlepoint, painted pottery, made personalized greeting cards, and explored many other arts and crafts. Ormarell especially loved crossword puzzles, reading, rooting for the Miami Dolphins, and researching genealogy. For the past 25 years, Ormarell had been an active member of Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, during which time she was a member of multiple groups and helped with many events.

After a vibrant 97 years, Ormarell is survived by a large and extended family, including two sons-in-law: Pat Crotty, of Denver, and Peter Trifiatis, of Fairfield; four grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren: Sean Crotty, and his wife, Carrie, and their children; Brenda Mahedy, and her husband, Steve, and their children; Jennifer Bissell, and her husband, Brian, and their children; and Peter Trifiatis, and his wife, Jenny, and their children; and numerous nieces and  nephews located throughout the country. In addition to her loving husband, parents, and daughters, she was predeceased by her siblings and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road, Fairfield, CT 06825. She will later be inurned at Ferncliff Cemetery in a private ceremony.
