John A. Kenyhercz, Jr., age 68, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Bridgeport on March 18, 1953, son of the late John and Irma (Szakal) Kenyhercz. John was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. He attended Warren Harding High School, The University School, Norwalk State Technical College, The Connecticut School of Electronics, where he graduated top of his class, as well as Housatonic Community College, where he was on the Dean's List and was inducted into the Psi Beta.
John was a licensed FCC General Radio Operator enjoying a long career in electronics, working for Thomson CSF Laboratories, the Fermont Division DCA, Kaufman Electronics, as a Support Engineer for WICC Radio and WNAB Radio. John was also a projectionist for Local Union IASTE-277 where he also served as Treasurer.
Most of all, his career included working as a Clinical Technician for St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he worked for nearly forty years. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ where he served on the Church Consistory and volunteered his skills with the Church sound system.
John served on the City of Bridgeport Planning and Zoning Commission, was a member of the Downtown Special Services District, and belonged to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief as well as the Salvation Army Emergency Response. He also enjoyed paranormal research with longtime friends Ed and Lorraine Warren; and in addition, he was an enthusiastic collector of model trains. He was also an avid reader and liked to keep up on world events. But more than anything, John loved the times that he spent with his family.
John is survived by his beloved sister, Carol Kenyhercz, of Branford; a nephew, Michael Skapczynski, and his wife, Tina; a niece, Robin Frechette and William Frechette; as well as great niece, Olivia; and great nephews, Justin, John, Brett, and Tyler.
