Salvatore Sanzone

Obituary of Salvatore M. Sanzone

Salvatore Michael Sanzone, age 95, of Fairfield, Connecticut, beloved husband of the late Norma Muzio Sanzone, passed away on Monday March 8, 2021. Born and raised in New York City, son of the late Michael and Anna Armenti Sanzone, Sal had been a Westchester, New York resident for most of his life before moving to Fairfield eight years ago.

Sal was a Veteran of World War Two, serving in Italy in the US Army's renowned 10th Mountain Division from December 1944 to August 1946. His decorations and citations include the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.

Given his outgoing personality, dashing good looks, and strong work ethic, it didn't take long after the war to realize that sales was Sal's calling. He spent most of his working life in the beverage industry. From 1946 to 1952, Sal owned his own distribution company, Horace Harding Beverage in Bayside, New York. In 1952, he became one of the first NYC-based salesmen for Miller High Life beer distributed by the Better Brands Company where he worked most of the remainder of his career.

The only son of a large Italian family, Sal was extremely proud of his Italian-American heritage and always put family above all else. He had a smile that would light up a room and a charming, contagious spirit that made everyone around him feel loved, protected, and cherished.

He shared a passion for travel, ballroom dancing and great food and wine with the love of his life, Norma, his wife of 67 years. He was an avid tennis player, and played well into his 80's. A devoted and generous husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Sal loved nothing more than to spend time with his four beloved grandchildren. He cheered each of them on with enthusiasm and pride. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Survivors include his children, Steven Sanzone and his wife Trish, Susan Sanzone Fauver and her husband Scribner, grandchildren Mitchell Hoffert, Nicolas Sanzone, Meg Fauver, and Olivia Fauver and her husband Jeff Nicholson. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Rita MacGregor of Pine Bush, New York as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Norma, his son Michael, and his sisters Bella Panciarelli, Margaret Ramagnano, Anna DeMasi and Marie Oliva. Funeral services will be held at a later date when all can gather safely.
