Obituary of Eleanor Divjak Stehle
Eleanora Divjak Stehle, 91, formerly of Fairfield, Groton, CT and of Dorset, VT passed away on Monday, March 9, 2021 after a courageous battle with dementia at Mountain View Center, Rutland, VT.
Ella was born in Blazuj, Bosnia and raised in Yugoslavia on February 14, 1930 to Michael and Rosina Zucker Divjak. Ella and family fled from their war- torn country during World War II and then her family was saved by American soldiers. She came to the U.S. on April 26, 1952 and her family moved to Denver, CO. They then moved to Bridgeport, CT. Jakob and Ella met in Denver and Jakob followed her to CT. They were married at St. Paul's Church, Bridgeport, CT on May 8, 1954 and were married for 61 years. Jakob predeceased her in June 2015.
Ella was an amazing cook and baker. Her cookies and strudel were always fought over during Sunday dinner and the holidays. She adored her grandchildren! She and Jake also were members of various racing pigeon clubs in the Fairfield area, winning many titles.
She is survived by her daughter Irma (Ron) Nagle of Dorset, VT, and son Jack (Janet) Stehle of Ledyard, CT, grandchildren, Derek (Jessie) Nagle, Travis Nagle, Adam Nagle and Alexis Stehle and two great grandchildren, Anja and Daniel Nagle. She is also survived by her brother, Rudy (Ina) Divjak of Milford, CT and sister, Margaret Jeremics of Cincinnati, OH and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, Joseph Divjak, Aleksander Divjak, Anna (Divjak) Grotti as well as her nephew Nick Grotti.
The family would like to thank two of her caregivers, Rosa Ventura in Groton, Barbara Moore in Dorset and the staff at Mountain View Center in Rutland, VT.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12 noon in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 until the time of services.
