John F. Smith, age 80 of Easton, beloved husband of Sharon Bates Smith, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2017. Born in Peel, Arkansas on June 4, 1936, son of the late Herman L. and Adair Cagle Smith, John was an Easton Town resident for many years. He had served his country in the US Army. He later went on to be the Comptroller for the City of Norwalk where he worked for over 30 years. Following his retirement, Mr. Smith operated a private tax accounting firm. He belonged to many organizations during his career including the former Fairfield Elks Lodge # 2220, the Town of Easton pension board and volunteered as treasurer for the Easton Emergency Medical Service. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his devoted wife Sharon, survivors include his son, J. ( Greg ) Smith and his wife Beth of Easton, his precious grandchildren Ashley and Connor, a sister Dorothy Cocozza and her husband Louis of Easton as well as sisters in law, a brother in law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers William H. Smith and Robert R. Smith. Funeral services will be held privately in the care of the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home.
