Donald T. Greenop, Sr., age 87, beloved husband to the late Joyce Kovacs Greenop, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2017. Many wonderful memories of Don will be embraced by his children, Donald Greenop, Jr., and his wife Terri, of Memphis, TN, Wesley Greenop, and his wife Beverly, of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Andrew Greenop, of Berkeley, CA, Megan and Courtney Greenop, both of Fairfield; his brother-in-law, Timothy Howard, and his wife Elsa, of Monroe; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends of his family. In addition to Joyce, his devoted wife of 55 years, Donald was predeceased by his brother, George Greenop, and sister-in-law, Nancy Loturco. Born in Mount Vernon, NY on August 25, 1929 to the late George and Jeanette Finnegan Greenop, Don attended local schools there until enlisting in the United States Air Force. A B-29 pilot, he was stationed in Guam and Roswell, NM during the Korean War. After his time in service, he moved to Bridgeport and later graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After marrying his beloved wife Joyce in 1955, they would move to Fairfield for the reminder of their lives. After working 15 years in the engineering department of Singer Corporation, and 18 years as a pin spotter mechanic for Nutmeg Bowl, he spent several years helping people in the garden department of Home Depot in Fairfield until his retirement. For over sixty years, Don was an avid fan of both the New York Giants Football and Rangers Hockey teams. A regular visitor of the Fairfield Library, Don truly enjoyed reading. Don was also quite fond of each of the four dogs he and his family had over the years. Above all, Don was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, as well as, a good friend to those he came to know throughout his fruitful life. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His funeral service will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with the Reverend Sara Smith, Esq. officiating. His interment with military honor will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
