Ruth Hrubo

Obituary of Ruth Hrubo

Ruth Mildred (Vana) Hrubo, 91, of North Olmsted, passed away on April 2, 2018. She often said,“If you have your health, you have everything.” Ruth had her health for 91 good years! Most recently she resided in Connecticut with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

Ruth is a graduate of Maple Heights High School. She worked at the U.S. Treasury downtown as a key punch operator and at Tri-C College in the counseling department. She volunteered for Cleveland Metro Parks at Rocky River Nature Center for many years. Ruth was way ahead of the times as a leader in edible landscaping and organic gardening. Her love of nature and animals has been passed down to her daughters. Her hobbies included: gardening, flower arranging, sewing, knitting, cooking, swimming, bird watching, word search puzzles and traveling to Arizona. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful role model for her granddaughter. Her 50 year old rose garden was enviable. Nightly, Ruth and her beloved dog, Strudel walked the block to a friend’s house for a glass of wine, followed by a parade of her three cats. Liz and Phyllis were her very special life- long friends, and her nephew Frank, who she loved very much.

Predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret Vana; her siblings, Clarence, Daniel (Elaine) and Margaret (George) Lucas, her first husband, Joseph Hrubo, second husband Jerome Glaser and a dear family friend Gary Dougher. Survived by her three daughters, Carolyn, Linda (Chris) and Marcia (Neil) and her granddaughter, Kelly, 21 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will take place on April 12, 2018 at 11 AM in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Medina Raptor Center, PO Box 74, Spencer, Ohio 44275 or Cleveland MetroParks Zoo.
